The Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River has begun replacing the floating navigation signs in the joint Bulgarian-Romanian section of the river.
The activities started at the end of last week in the area of Svishtov, where a new fairway was marked ensuring more convenient and safer passage for the skippers.
At the end of last year, the Agency received 150 new floating navigation signs equipped with AIS technology. The delivery was carried out under the DISMAR project, funded by the INTERREG VI-A Romania–Bulgaria Program.
The new buoys meet modern requirements for improved visibility for the skippers. They are equipped with solar panels and an Automatic Identification System (AIS), which allows real-time tracking through the already established information system.
The DISMAR project is implemented jointly by the river administrations of Bulgaria and Romania. Its main objective is to enhance navigation safety and modernize the information infrastructure by building an integrated marking system in the cross-border region. Within the project, over 1000 new coastal navigation signs have already been delivered. The delivery of a non-self-propelled vessel is also forthcoming, which will support their servicing and maintenance.
